It’s crazy how the year’s already coming to a close, and with it comes the gifting fever, which also brings home runs and terrible misplays. Unless you’re planning to trick a recipient, watching someone feign happiness is always never a fun experience, especially if you thought you had it all planned out.
That’s why we’re continuing with our What Not To Gift (WNTG) series. Only this time, we’ll be covering Christmas gifting in the hopes youwon’t slip up, much. Cheers to happier unboxings, happier recipients, and a happier you!
THE RESULTS
Hand creams? Socks and tees? Mugs? You’ll be surprised to find that most of these stocking stuffers are a huge no-no for people, so strike them off your list if you have them penned down as your safety net. Here’s what some people shared:
Females
No beauty sets, please. I won’t ever use them, and they’ll just end up rotting away in the corner of my drawer until I throw them out.
Socks are an absolute no for me, they’re the epitome of uncool.
I don’t like receiving hand creams or skincare, because I have very specific brands that I use.
Males
Wine. I don’t particularly care for the taste, and it’s expensive.
Clothes and accessories, not because they aren’t practical, but they don’t always suit my taste. Avoid non-fiction books too — I find them quite boring.
I don’t like receiving ornamental objects, because they’re not super useful. I rather you gift me beer, cookies, umeshu.
What an intriguing bunch of answers, huh?
MY RECIPIENT DIDN'T LIKE THE GIFT! WHAT DO I DO?
There’s always that possibility. However, it’s the thought that counts, and your recipient can always choose to regift it. Don’t go beating yourself up over a blip! Just try and try again, it’s hard to nail it in one go anyways.
To help you prepare for next time, here are some tips to keep in mind:
Number 1
Spend some time observing and pay more attention to them for a clearer idea on their interests, preferences and lifestyle.
Number 2
Psst… here’s a life hack! 😉 Bring them window shopping and take note of what catches their eye.
Number 3
Take into account how they will interpret the meaning behind your gift.
Number 4
Avoid taking the cliche route with pre-packed gift boxes and put in the effort to tailor the gift!
Number 5
Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game! Don’t be scared to get creative and romantic.
YOU'RE ALL SET
