So far we’ve been giving you tips on what to gift… But we’re switching it up a lil’ and telling you What Not To Gift (WNTG)! Hopefully this series will teach you a thing or two about what kind of gifts to avoid when shopping for a certain person or occasion.
Here’s how it works: Every month on Instagram, we’ll ask you guys what you’d like to see in the next WNTG and pick one suggestion at random. Then, all you have to do is keep a look out for the blog post! 😉
And now, to kick off the launch of this new series, we’ll be starting with Husbands & Wives!
THE RESULTS
First wedding anniversary? Significant other’s birthday coming up? We’ve asked some married peeps what gift items they wouldn’t want to receive from their spouse, and picked out some answers that piqued our interest… Here’s what some hubbies and wifeys had to say:
What The Wives Say
Nothing exercise-related cuz that’d be very offensive!
No gifts without any thought put into them like gift cards, clothes or accessories.
No family heirlooms. There’s a lot of pressure on my end to carry something around that holds so much value. What if I lose it??
What The Husbands Say
I’d hate to receive any gifts that are indirectly meant for her. For example, concert tickets to her favourite band.
Gifts that can’t be used, like a shirt that doesn’t fit me. I know it’s the thought that counts but if I can’t use it then that kinda defeats the purpose of it all.
I wouldn’t like any form of perishable items. I want to be able to keep gifts from my spouse forever!
What an intriguing bunch of answers, huh?
MY RECIPIENT DIDN'T LIKE THE GIFT! WHAT DO I DO?
OK don’t panic and more importantly, don’t beat yourself up over it! We have no control over people’s likes and dislikes. While it was a nice gesture for you to get them something, the gift along with their reaction is only your best guess and wish. Pick yourself up and try again!
Here are some tips to consider when choosing your next gift :
Number 1
Spend some time observing and pay more attention to them for a clearer idea on their interests, preferences and lifestyle.
Number 2
Psst… here’s a life hack! 😉 Bring them window shopping and take note of what catches their eye.
Number 3
Take into account how they will interpret the meaning behind your gift.
Number 4
Avoid taking the cliche route with pre-packed gift boxes and put in effort to tailoring the gift!
Number 5
Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game! Don’t be scared to get creative and romantic.
